Todd will be hosting the Yankee Point Racing and Cruising Club’s (YPRCC) first post-Covid workshop this year – “Getting Your Boat Ready – Now”. The workshop, on Saturday, March 18, will begin at 9:00am, at the YPRCC clubhouse, 734 Oak Hill Road, Lancaster.
Todd will walk attendees through a comprehensive spring commissioning checklist and demonstrate preparation of a diesel engine and a large power boat in the morning session.
The workshop, according to club Commodore Win Schwab, is designed for owners of both sailboats and powerboats. “Because of Todd’s many years of experience, there is something for everyone taking this workshop,” he noted.
He added that preparing now, ahead of the boating season, is a much smarter strategy than waiting for an emergency to happen that could have been prevented.
After Todd’s presentation, the afternoon session, devoted to an “in water” demonstration at YPRCC’s pier, will be conducted by YPCC’s Synergy committee member Warren Hottle and other YPRCC volunteers. “In this session we will offer an active, hands-on demonstration of how to prepare both a sailboat and an outboard-powered craft,” said Hottle.
Both sessions will afford attendees an opportunity to share experiences and ask questions.
Participation in the workshop is free. A sandwich lunch will be available for $5.00, or attendees can bring their own. To reserve a place and/or order a sandwich, call Warren Hottle at 804-475-9393. To find out more about the event go to www.YPRCC.org.
YPRCC’s educational workshops will continue throughout the boating season and, according to Hottle, will cover such topics as obtaining a Virginia Boaters License, safety procedures, navigation, racing rules, cooking aboard, and cruising the Bay. “Fittingly, our final workshop this year will be on winterization,” he said.
