Our apologies for not writing more regularly over the course of the spring and summer. Kara and I have much enjoyed meeting many of you over the summer, and we look forward to meeting the remaining customers in the weeks and months to come.
AS HOPEFULLY YOU HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO WITNESS IN PERSON, OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM HERE ARE WORKING HARD TOWARD THE GRANDER VISION WE HAVE FOR YANKEE POINT WHILST STILL MANAGING THE DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS OF A BUSY MARINA AND BOAT YARD. WE TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR AND UPDATE YOU ON WHERE WE ARE HEADED.
GROUNDS
We have been working hard to clean up the facilities. This includes a considerable amount of brush removal, weeding, creation of new pathways, new lighting, and the creation of new parking areas. We will soon be adding new signage throughout the facility and will be creating new trailer parking areas to alleviate congestion in high traffic areas.
Over the course of the off season, we intend to replace the fencing around the pool, add additional games spaces around the pool area to include corn hole, a swing set, additional seating in the area under the trees, new awnings extending from The Shack and over a portion of the pool and possibly a beach volleyball court. We hope to have an activities coordinator for next summer and have more regularly scheduled events to include corn hole tournaments, a variety of live music, wine tastings, etc.
BOAT YARD
The boat yard has been busy this summer, and new faces include mechanic James and all-arounder Chris, allowing us to expand our service offering further.
We have brought in a new yard trailer which allows us more flexibility in how we arrange boats for the storage season. We have allocated the perimeter of the yard for vessels simply being stored, reserving the center section as a “work yard”.
Beginning 1 January 2023, vessels being worked on will be required to be in the work yard and placed on ground cover; owners wanting to complete work themselves will be required to adhere to the attached DIY Rules. These measures are to limit the work yard debris for those vessels in storage, and to help keep a cleaner yard environment.
As the yard continues to fill, in order to ensure there remains enough space in the work area for vessels being actively worked on, vessels in the work area will be charged $0.50/ft LOA/day for time in the work area in lieu of their normal storage fee. Moves between the storage area and the work area for work done by any party other than us will be subject to our standard re-blocking charge of $275/move. These fees will come into play 1 January 2023, and will not apply to those vessels being worked on by us.
MARINA
As many of you know, David Harvey has taken the post of marina manager. To assist David, we have brought onboard Dockwa as he mentioned in a recent email. This program allows us to better manage the marina and will add greater transparency and ease of billing going forward. We hope you find this improvement to be of great benefit.
RESTAURANTS
It has been a great delight (and challenge) getting both The Shack and The Captains Lounge up and running this season. We could not be happier with the success we have seen so far.
The Shack is now open 5 days-a-week and will likely reduce our open hours following pool closure so that we are still able to provide a lunch time spot during the week for those wishing to get lunch to go.
The Captains Lounge will stay open year-round. We have extended our operating days to include Monday and we are in the finishing stages of creating additional lounge space below the deck with a TV. We are hoping that on those beautiful fall days we can be gathered together overlooking Myer Creek while watching a football game and enjoying a tasty beverage or two!
Additionally, we are in the process of adding pizza to the menu. We are finalizing our master recipe and our specialty pizzas, please keep an eye out for further announcements about this.
FACILITIES
This year so far has been about fixing those things that were most in need and now we have developed a game plan for our improvements over the winter. First on the list is to remodel the bathhouse and bring the laundry facilities to that building. Design plans are being finalized and we hope to start those renovations in February.
We have some minor changes that we plan to make at The Shack including moving the existing storage building, creating a new ordering and pick up window and expanding the kitchen area to where the laundry is now.
Throughout Yankee Point, there will be a lot of scraping and painting happening this winter along with continued landscaping improvements.
